Acts of Kindness was set up in 2011 with a number of trustees from churches within Redditch, after seeing the challenging circumstances a number of people faced in our town.
Initially, we helped people with food parcels, clothes and small items of furniture as we were able to. However in 2013 there were major benefit changes throughout the country which meant that the need to provide food parcels for people increased by 297%. In response to this, Acts of Kindness then partnered with Trussell Trust, who are a national charity that then predominately provided food for people in crisis where each person is given ten meals over a three day period of non-perishable foods.
The need for food parcels continued to increase and in July 2014 Acts of Kindness became a fully registered Charity:1157916.
In the year 2024–2025, Redditch Foodbank distributed 3,128 emergency food parcels to local people in crisis. Of these, 1,123 (36%) went to children and 2,005 (64%) to adults, highlighting the ongoing levels of food insecurity and need across the community. The foodbank supported 802 unique referrals and assisted a total of 1,438 households, providing vital help when it was most needed.
In 2025, Acts of Kindness continues to work with over 100 referral partners, not just for emergency food parcels, but for access to various other provision including white goods and household items, as well as wellbeing connect groups and 1-2-1 wellbeing support. The charity continues to expand, and has partnered with The Project, to provide accredited benefits and welfare advice and support. AOK actively responds to the needs of the Redditch community and is always looking for opportunities to support the fantastic work going on in the community.
