Redditch Foodbank, part of a the national network of Trussell Trust Foodbanks for more information on this please visit www.trusselltrust.org/ it is a resource accessed by those in need via a number of referring agencies, including RBC Housing Dept., The Job Centre
National statistics say that 13 million people in the UK live below the poverty line so it stands to reason that there are those in our town who are impacted by this challenging situation, both adults and children, nationally almost 127,000 children have been helped by a Foodbank last year, figures are not expected to drop this year.
All Foodbanks are run by local charities, Redditch Foodbank is run by Redditch charity AOK – Acts Of Kindness, a Christian Charity set up a number of years ago with the aim of playing a part in alleviating poverty and providing help in a variety of ways to those in need in our town, also with strong connections to the two Oasis Charity shops at Woodrow and Winyates . The charity is run by a number of Christian trustees drawn from several Redditch churches who all have a love for our town and its people assisted on a day to day basis by a committed team of volunteers who work hard in areas from food collection and sorting to the face to face distribution of food parcels from a number of town wide distribution points.
There are many ways ordinary people and local businesses can get involved in the work of AOK and Redditch Foodbank, food donation, via a regular collection point at Tesco, periodic collections over a day or week end at Tesco and soon other supermarkets, individuals can donate directly, please contact to find out where. Volunteers are always needed, so if you would like to work alongside a great team of enthusiastic people there will always be an opening for you. A number of local firms and businesses already support us with “in House “food collections, which is great, the work of AOK also requires financing and some businesses and individuals have supported us with financial gifts, some also set up regular gift donations enabling AOK to plan the work to continue. If you as an individual or a business would like to support us in this way please contact —– info@redditch.foodbank.org.uk
